Seventeen young and enthusiastic artists were treated to a jam packed day of drawing, creative activities and group games at St Ann's Church Hall in Wilmslow during their summer break. The one day workshop was organised and lead by Julia Johnston, an experienced Art teacher, and Hannah Brown, an Artist and tutor.
The children began their day by making their own unique name badges. The artists then headed outside to draw the surrounding buildings, plants, flowers and trees.
After all the hard (yet very fun!) work outdoors, the children took inspiration from their sketches and produced three long murals. Working collaboratively, the artists experimented with chalks, pens and pencils and the final results were brilliant! The children learnt the rules for producing a landscape drawing and Julia explained how to develop the foreground, middle-ground and background of the mural design. At the end of the day, each child took a section of their mega mural home with them.
During the afternoon, the children made their own colourful garden ornament. The artists were introduced to simple weaving techniques and enjoyed using twigs, ribbon, thread and collage materials to create their decoration.
After the garden ornaments had been carefully set aside, the day was completed by a series of quick and fun drawing games that produced silly and unusual results! The aspiring artists had a great time and we very much hope to see them all again soon for many more creative activities!
