Colourful Still Life artworks at Ashdene Primary

The Art Club group at Ashdene Primary school have been hard at work creating these wonderful Still Life paintings! Each artwork has been painted onto a small canvas and has been inspired by a variety of different artists. We are very impressed by the quality of these bright and characterful paintings! A big well done to all the children who took part!

ART'Scool after school club at Ashdene Primary School

Pupils from Years One to Five experienced an action packed hour of print-making in the first of six after school Art Club sessions. Natural forms such as leaves and feathers inspired their designs. We're looking forward to using different materials next week and taking home the prints when they've dried!

ART’Scool 30th October 2015

It was a fine autumnal day when we gathered to

begin our half term workshop at the end of October.

Our theme was...WATER.

We began by looking at lots of images of water – reflections, ripples, droplets and rain – and drawing lines, patterns and shapes.

Print-making
After a practice, we drew our designs into polystyrene foam, recreating the patterns found in the photographs of water and used the foam to print repeat patterns.

Even playtime was artistic, using dried leaves to make objects related to water. Here is a stingray…the children had great fun making it and possibly even more running through it after the photograph had been taken!

Painting on canvas
We made different tints, hues and tones using acrylic paints on canvas, blending colours to give the effect of water.

Mixed Media Fish
We looked carefully at the texture, shape, form, colour & patterns of fish in photographs and used them to inspire us to create our own fabulous fish! We used tissue paper, chalk pastels, pencil crayons and felt tips.

Seasonal bunting
The children had great fun using their imagination to create seasonal bunting and enjoyed drawing their own pumpkins, monsters and even Frankenstein!

What did we learn? …to develop
Observational skills, looking closely at references; Drawing skills, using line & shape; Painting skills, creating fluid, sinuous lines, blending colours and brush strokes; Texture through paint (implied texture) and mixed media; Imagination, being creative!
